“I would take my fifth graders to Poland. Modern daily life and customs could come alive through artifacts, fabrics, and folktales while I tell anecdotes of teaching in Poland for 5 summers. Introducing the Holocaust to this age group is a more complex undertaking (being the first year of a WWII formal unit) and requires a multitude of documents such as maps, diaries, sketches, registries, photos, posters, and more to gain a basic appreciation and understanding.” - smiths122
