Does anyone have a good grant source for document cameras. The district here got a grant for the Math teachers but I teach Special Ed. and would love to have one. Finding a grant is my only hope.
I would welcome any good ideas! Thanks, debwalker ![]() |

I am also looking for ways to get a Doc Cam, Camera to attach to computer, books, maps, and many other items. I am teaching in an inpatient facility and don't have any budget allotted. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I would love to learn of grants also. I am a Technology Integration Specialist for our district. I am always looking for ways to get more technology into the classroom.

Donors Choose is always a good start. You can also search companies like Target, IBM, Dollar General. Dollar General is especially focused on reading. If you can tie the Doc. cam into your reading achievement it would be helpful. A lot of local businesses offer grants.

Another teacher and I wrote a grant for SmartBoards a few years ago and received $5,000 from Food Lion. Check out the website for info. We also have gotten money for school equipment from Wal-Mart. Big retailers in your local community are always looking for good publicity for themselves, too. If you get grant money, give them a plug by putting a picture/article in the local paper.

I have been searching for these types of grants as well. I am currently registered at a couple of sites where donors can grant your proposals and provide you with supplies for your classroom. So far, I haven't received anything, but I am still holding out hope. I actually requested a document camera on there.....it's just a waiting game.

I read somewhere that someone got a doc cam from Ebay for $250. Brand new and loving it. Not sure of the brand.

I really want a document camera. With the stress we are facing each day in math education, we need every tool we can get to help the students learn. A document camera is a great way to demonstrate with manipulatives and show examples for hands on activities. I would like to know where to apply for a grant.

Not to bash ebay, just be careful. There are a lot of very old doc cams on there, even though they are cheap. I even saw our first doc cam on there (many many years old) for a buy it now of $350. Well, you can get a nice new AVerVision for close to that.

I wondered about ebay? I've looked occasionally to see what comes up, but I'm very weary.

I know that Instructor magazine ( which is put out by Scholastic) lists grants in each issue. Here is the only grant website they list in the Nov/Dec 2008 issue that would probably fit this document camera topic. But it's specifically for educators who have creative ideas for teaching science:

Keep your ears open for school grants and such, too. We got some DC's through PTA grants and educational foundation grants.
Of course, those didn't include projectors! -Becky |

Just curious as to how your PTA grants work. Does that mean the teachers from your school write grants to your school's PTA? And then the PTA decides who is awarded the grant(s)?

I don't think we have PTA grants at our school. I should ask my friend who is a teacher rep on the PTA Board.

How ironic! My district just released their grant applications for the upcoming 2009 calendar year. I think I know what I am going to get busy working on over the break. Reading through this forum will give me lots of ideas.

Unless I can win a document camera from this contest!
That would be even better! Oh, but I guess I still need a projector right? |
