Document cameras are a great resource when you have more than 50% English Learners. You can easily correct their writing under the document camera. You can also show many science demos and experiments with the camera. No teacher should be without a docu cam.

Yes, that is a great use for a DC. I think it would be great to model and correct grammar.

I agree. Another reason is because many of the document cameras have the ability to project what's on the computer screen. So if a student does not know the meaning of a word, the teacher can easily google the word and find an image to go with it. Ofcourse, due to the nature of some of those images it is a good idea for teacher to preview before showing student. The reason I say that is because if you google Spelling, Tori Spelling (the actress) comes up. Sometimes she is not very decent looking. One can also find games that a group of students can play to increase reading skills. Webquests can also be displayed.

In regards to English Language Learners- there's nothing like realia to learn vocabulary- and sometimes pictures don't even cut it. That's another strength of the document camera- you can show the actual object and do things with it, all the while using the important associated vocabulary. For a basic example, I'm thinking of a lesson on fruit and associated verbs/nouns: "peel the banana, peel the orange, slice the apple, here are the seeds, etc.

I love being an ELL teacher, a doc cam would make it easier for me to show models, visual aids, students work, and many other things to the whole class.

Yes, combining visuals with auditory presentation really boosts their retention and understanding of what is being taught. I have found with my ELL students that the more they can see, touch, hear, feel things, the better they will comprehend what is being taught.

I co-teach with a vision teacher and one thing that would be great for her students is that she could put something with braille on the document camera (since braille is not just for those that are completely visually impaired) and she could project the braille cell largly so that the students can learn and see how braille is used. Plus they could still use the piece of paper that she was projecting to feel it.
