What is a Virtual Field Trip?

Heard this term but have no idea what a "virtual" field trip is? Imagine being able to bring all the experiences of a field trip into your classroom, without all the logistics and extra costs.

This video will help explain what a virtual field trip is and how it differs from a conventional field trip.

Bell Work

When each class enters the room, they have bell work. When we were complete our bell work today, I had a great thought. If I had a DC, I could call a student up to share their answers with the class. Giving each child a chance to share and learn.

I teach for the Upward Bound program on the weekends. We teach at the local college, and they are high tech. So I was able to teach with a dc today in class, and it made me want one so much more for my 6th grade classroom. I have my fingers crossed to win this month!

I am looking at purchasing a used 300i and would like to get some reviews about this particular product. I was able to find the 300i priced within my budget, but want to find out if it will do what I need it to do or if I should wait and save Money to purchase 300af?

A document camera is perfect for teaching note-taking and reading strategies trough the use of a highlighter. They're also great to use as a microscope during science labs. Students can actually see what you are doing on the screen as you are doing it. I do not have one but feel its uses are endless!

Anyone use a Mead Board?

We have new interactive whiteboards in our classroom and I would love to use a document camera with it. Does anyone else use the Mead Board? I just wonder how easy an AverMedia doc camera would work with one.

When a student or two in middle school volunteers to help set up the document camera, let them! I like to designate a technical support person who can adjust, focus, and otherwise get the document camera ready and they love to be responsible for doing this! They can help you get your class started more quickly and are happy to be "in the know" as well as of great use to you. The gooseneck document camera is also very helpful because it is flexible.

Math and Document Camera

I recently borrowed a document camera from one of the younger grades and used it for math. We were comparing decimals and fractions using manipulatives. It was so perfect how the students could see these small manipulatives on a large screen. I had them do this with me using base ten manipulatives. I think they really understood and paid attention more since they could REALLY see my directions. I would LOVE to be able to use a document camera to enhance my math everyday!

I have been using a document camera for about 2 years now. I had a different brand and it was nice. But, recently I was able to demo an Avermedia CP155. It is the least expensive model but it is WONDERFUL!! It is easier to use and has more features than the previous one I had. The software is fantastic. I can "write" on my documents and not have to waste pads of paper.
